Spotlight on Carrie Grant, Platinum Awards Judge

We’re stoked that we have such an esteemed panel of judges this year for the Janey Loves 2018 Platinum Awards to recognize the best in natural products and services.  We welcome singer and presenter Carrie Grant and here we shine the spotlight on her and ask 7 questions

Tell  us a bit about your background, how did you come to be doing what you do ?

I started out as a singer and dancer. I was a dancer on Top of the Pops and had my first record deal at 16yrs old. When I was a kid life was a bit tough but the one thing I loved to do and I could escape into was performance. It was the strategy that kept me sane.

Whats your big ‘WHY’

I never ask why as there are always a million options I try to ask what. What is going on in our country when we have relative truth?  It feels as though people can have a particular perspective, support that perspective with “spin” and suddenly we have opinions and policies made based on this so called truth. As a Mother of four i want my children to know the difference between right and wrong, to have a strong moral code and to care for others.

How do you relax ?

I play the piano and sing. I don’t play that well but I play well enough to accompany myself.

What do you focus on most in terms of health and wellbeing for you and your family ?

We are all about mental health and wellbeing. All four of my children have special needs so I have had to completely change the way I think as a parent and modify my parenting to work individually for each child. I have a zillion coping strategies for my children which we have normalised into each day.

Whats do you eat for breakfast ?

Avocado, blueberries and orange in my NutriBullet. I love making smoothies and I have a super healthy diet as I have Crohns Disease and have worked out what works best for me.

How much do you exercise ?

Not nearly enough. I run around so much in may day and as I am a carer to two of the children I simply have no time for myself to go out and take exercise. I would love to but unfortunately the is one of the things I have lost as a parent.

If you could be Health minister for a day what would you do ?

Revolutionise Children’s Mental health services. MH is the bottom of the NHS pile and kids are the bottom of the MH pile. Only 25% of children referred to CAMHs (Children and Adolescent MH Services) actually get an appointment. We are sitting on a tidal wave of MH issues.

What’s your mantra ?  / favourite inspirational quote

I’d rather get to heaven and be told I loved too much than I judged too much.
